Technology, women and age

Posted by olguitac on 7. January 2018

My sixty eight years old mother (if you read my last post you’d know we don’t hide our age) is so hook in technology she always wants to know about the latest thing, even if she is going to use it or not. She wants to know how it works and what it is used for.

She graduated as a Chemistry Engineer and worked in the field for some years after graduation, but somehow ten years later she chose Human Resources or it chose her. At that point she was a worker and became the boss of the HR department at the Food Industry Company for the country.

It was there when I saw her passion for new things, read all the company’s  laws to help her co-workers and subordinates. She spent nights working trying to solve every problem she could.

Technology wasn’t that advanced at the time but she always managed to get a new vision on how to do things a better way, less hassle and more time used helping than filling up paperwork.

That`s when computers were introduced to her and a whole new world opened in front of her. She could fill up forms, keep important information in the hard drive, memory sticks and so on, without the need to spend hours writing it up. If my mind doesn’t betray me she was in her late forties and she never once said “I can’t do it” or “it’s too hard for me”. It was like the mere idea of having something new to manage her work, she had to conquer it.

And that’s how I carry my life, I don’t care about my age to accomplish or learn new things. I left my job at thirty seven to start a new career and a Master. I don’t think about how old I feel, look or I actually am, I just think of doing and learning something new and fulfilling my passion.

I was in a meeting a few months back and I was introducing new ideas, not that I’m actually an eager user of that program I was talking about but I know it works in specific situations and when you want to reach a determined audience. My idea fell flat which is totally ok with me. But the excuse I got was

“I don’t know how to use that, I’m from another generation.”

Immediately I thought of my mom. How she never, ever complaint about her age and still doesn’t.

If there is a new technology, a new idea, a new way of doing things today at her sixty eight years old she still wants to learn about it. And here I have this woman (late forties maybe fifties) in front of me telling me she doesn’t want to get involve in something new because it’s not her generation.

It’s ok to let young people do their thing, but at what point we have to stop our mind, or desire, our passion to allow the new generation to shine?

  • Can’t we all survive in this world together?
  • Can’t we all learn from each other?
  • Can’t we all just live until the last minute without the need to feel or being told how old we are?

The thin line between the meanings of words

Posted by jjerlich on 1. September 2017

Microwave oven post boxThe selection of the words you use to introduce a new product depends on your viewpoint and attitude: it is a discovery, an invention or a creation that happened by accident or because of a failure on the pathway towards your original goal.

A thin line.

How do you interpret the meanings of the words around failure, mistakes and errors? Which ones do you use?

The story of the microwave: Percy Spencer accidently discovered the revolutionary process while experimenting with a new type of vacuum tube called magnetron in 1945. First available for home use in the early 1950s, it was very unpopular because of its bulky size and high price (said to be $5,000). Only in 1967 a 100-volt countertop version was introduced to the market at a price of $495.

Does your company have the ressources to afford such a long time to market these days?

My parents still have the first microwave, no not as a post box. Believe it or not, it is still in use.

It was about that 3.000 Austrian Schillings when it was bought.

I love this particular use of a microwave … my grandfather was working for the Post and would have loved it.

Your answer to this question alone, is the reason for why you should join a FuckUp Night near you.

FUN.Basel Vol VII – celebrating …

Posted by jjerlich on 25. June 2017

… the 1st Anniversary with our community

The heat was on. For the occasion and the temperature. Despite the hot weather we were about 50 people, previous speakers, regulars and new comers, gathered at Launchlabs. We had the honor of having the CEO and owner of Launchlabs among us this time and could personally say how grateful we are for being hosted in such a wonderful location..

Cool that you all came, thank you very much for making it to be with us, especially on that day.

Chapeau to our speakers, thank you for sharing your stories:

Andreas Erbe

Andreas Erbe
Andreas is an innovation consultant and coach specializing in work environments. He enjoys working on agile, space-related projects and so decided four years ago to found launchlabs in Basel to pursue his passion for creating spaces for innovation. His lesson:

Do not trust the four Fs !

He shared with us some of the situations where you are not sure what you were not able to foresee this. The feeling I got was that it is still worth the challenges and pains you have to overcome as an entrepreneur. He calls his “launchlabs – the place where shit happens. Oh, yes, and innovation”.

Launchlabs Basel

Sabine van T HartSabine Van T Hart

Born in the Netherlands, growing up in Australia, finding the love of her life in Italy, now living in Switzerland, She shared her ‘Cookie monster’ story the first time in public. Her friends are still amazed how she made it from her marketing career to start her health coaching business ‘Puricious’.

Do not take your health for granted !

Sabine was our speaker during the SUGAR AWARENESS WEEK, a campaign she and her husband Marco were running to share facts about the effect on sugar in our bodies.

This is an extremely hot topic these days and FUN.Basel was happy to be support it with our community.

Steve Rocco

Steve Rocco
Sustainability is important to him and a word he uses often –  he is really passionate about investments that make an impact for our societies. He co-founded and worked at Mission Markets in New York, a pioneering fintech startup focused on capital raising for impact companies and funds.

Be aware that you are jumping without a parachute.

He said he fucked up so many times that it will be difficult to decide which story to share. It is also quite hard to give you a glimpse into the story he shared. What happens in Launchlabs, … is definitely worth joining.

A question from our Q&A sessions, we are interested to share with you:

Do you only learn from mistake you did yourself or can you also learn from mistakes others made?

Let us know in an email or the comments below.

We are looking forward to see you on September 6, 2017

Zucker – was viele nicht wissen

Posted by jjerlich on 2. June 2017

The car that was not a car

Posted by juttajerlich on 16. May 2017

or … getting into the driver seat!

Jutta Jerlich & Kane MinkusI think we all know this … feeling like you are not in the driver seat of life.

Is someone else driving?

Is some kind of robot controlling the direction (and you do not find the Stop button)?

Are the circumstances or things in your environment controlling the car?

Whatever it is in your life – I recommend you to get out of it and start creating your own reality.

One of a Kind Expert

Posted by jjerlich on 4. May 2017

It was about a year ago that I first met Kane Minkus in a short introduction event in Basel. As a digital expert I always remember where I got to know about the event – I clicked on a Linkedin ad. Really good that Linkedin knew I was in Basel at that time. 🙂

Jutta Jerlich and Kevin Harrington

Long story short:
Since the first time I spoke to Kane a year ago lots of changes happened. First of all personal development led me to take decisions differently. Most of all the incredible network and people I am now connected and collaborate with.

… No, it is not just about taking fotos with famous people – here I am with Kevin Harrington, the guy from the US Television  Show Shark Tank. I did have the opportunity to speak with Kevin in person and enjoyed meeting him.

I want to express my joy that I know Kane and Alessia who you will get to meet if you join them at the next upcoming “Start At The Top” program.

Yes, they are coming again to Switzerland and Yeah !! Germany & Austria as well. Here are the dates and time – just click on the pic or your city and sign up for the FREE event.

It is so much worth your time and it will change your life.

Dates to join Kane Minkus SATT

A little MORE about Kane

Kane & the Industry Rockstar team have been teaching the worlds brightest business owners how to really make a difference and create a legacy in their industry.

With 30 years old he had launched over 24 different companies, taking 5 of them to multi million dollar and multi international success. Learning a few things from a guy like that is an opportunity you should not let pass by.

At the same time he stayed a person you can talk to – it is so much fun to see him on stage and work with him.

Will I meet you in the Industry Rockstar Community of Holistic Entrepreneurs and Business Owners soon?

All the best

Jutta

FUN.Basel Vol VI – Finding …

Posted by jjerlich on 12. April 2017

Easter Edition 11.4.2017

I really enjoyed this particular #FuckUpNightBasel‬ at Launchlabs. Here are my reasons why

  • the 3 stories were all presented in a really funny way by exceptional speakers
  • we really enjoy this great location = Launchlabs is the space for creative event formats that strive to introduce new ways of thinking. A huge thanks to our hosts.
  • we had a great crowd of newcomers and repeated delinquents. Thank you all for coming!

A huge Thank you goes to our speakers  – they are a crucial factor for setting the spirit of the evening.

Thank you … for sharing your stories:

Simple solutions

Posted by jjerlich on 2. November 2016

wp_20160720_009When you find yourself in a difficult situation or facing a complex problem, others always find it simple and easy to solve. You get suggestions on how to solve the problem right away.

Do you know that feeling? I do.

Sometimes we even know the solution when we actually had time to think about it. It is not so easy though to apply your inner wisdom. It needs time and space to stay in touch with your inner voice and take decisions accordingly. A third person to sort out the conversations between you and yourself makes a huge difference.

I recently met Martin & Stefan who have the gift to help people doing just that: Sorting out what they already know, face the unknowns and manifest your inner powers through decisions and actions. Sounds too fluffy?

  • Martin is a master in guiding people to allow themselves to surface the knowledge you already have to create the life you want.
  • Stefan is the left side of the brain and a capacity in putting processes in place to grow your business, ideas and skills.

I convinced them to share their methods and exercises beyond their normal 1:1 setting. They are holding a very first 1-Day workshop in Basel on 12.11.2016.

They gave me the gift of 15 special workshop tickets to forward to my personal network which I am happy to offer you – just contact me.

If the date does not fit into your schedule or you are not in Basel but you still would like to know more about their activities, please leave them your email on their website and you will receive updates on their upcoming programs in different cities and online.

Happy to see you next Saturday or connect with you online.

Inspirational regards

Jutta

Please write this down

Posted by juttajerlich on 28. August 2016

When you hear these words, it means that the following statement is important.
Really important. It also means that you are most likely listening to Kane Minkus 🙂

Alessia and Kane Minkus

Since Friday the 3-Day START AT THE TOP Seminar is held in Zurich, Switzerland. The task and goal = empowering business owners to realize their dreams and impact their communities.

It is actually quite funny how these words “please write this down” actually make people write them down. School has engraved the words so deeply into our brains that as soon as the words are said, the intended action follows. Here are a few examples:

  • A business is about helping people.
  • In business positioning is everything.
  • Ideas are worthless – Execution is everything.

Knowing how to translate these statements (most of us know) into practical actions is the key. The key to successful business results.

Today is the 3rd day – TRANSFORMATION DAY.

Magic has been happening all along for the participants: changing mindsets, understanding growth insights and realizing how powerful networking opportunities can actually be when really used.

It is great meeting so many Swiss based entrepreneurs.

Looking forward to further connecting with you …

After a successful event it is always the question if this can be continued, repeated in the same manner. I am happy to say that the second #FuckUpNight‬ in #‎Basel‬ was another inspiring evening with 3 stories from our speakers, all having worked in the corporate world before.

We spoke about age, actual books you can touch, word of mouth and digital marketing channels … and are curious on what our audience took with them as the one learning from the evening.

Thanks Isabelle for the great collaboration and appreciation we share – proud that the FUN.Basel evenings are our joint creation.

The New School of Business Rules

Number 1 Skill business owners and entrepreneurs needed to master right now in this chaotic economy

Times are tough … you’re probably finding it’s costing you more now than ever to win a new client, your overheads are likely going up and up, budgets are being cut left, right and center, consumer sentiment is down and bankruptcies and financial stress are on the rise.

networking

If you asked me what I thought was the Number 1 skill business owners and entrepreneurs needed to master right now in this chaotic economy, where turbulence and strife just seems to go on and on … I could give you a very long answer or a quick recommendation as follows.

When I met Kane from the Industry Rockstar® team the first time, I was not sure at all … I thought that I would first listen to what his program is about.

It was a free 2 hour workshop in Basel that got me started … the experience was just unforgettable and … things have changed since then.

Next week this same door opens again in Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich – in your city between June 21st to 27th with the opportunity to join the August 26th-28th Start At The Top 3 Day weekend.

Someone who shares their business growth secrets, experiences and network has a worth beyond millions of dollars.
I strongly recommend you to discover this LIVE yourself

A WARNING
Sometimes people don’t value what they get for FREE. I chose to pay attention. The skills they teach will definitely complement what you have and get you what you need to master your business …

Hope to meet you – in Basel or later on in Zurich – in person …

Posted by juttajerlich on 30. April 2016

The April days from 22 – 24th 2016 I was in Zurich at Swissôtel for the Start at the Top Live Workshop with Kane & Alessia Minkus.

My decision to join was based on the personality of Kane and how he managed to create a real group connection between the participants after only 2 hours. Read the rest of this entry »

the first ever FuckUpNight in Basel

12.May 2016

The Basel region is Switzerland’s most dynamic and innovative economic area. Located at the heart of Europe, right next to Germany and France, is is also known for the incomparable art and architecture scene and its lively approach to life.

Trilingual – English, German and French.

Here are the links you need for more details, reserving your seats, joining the FUN.Basel community to engage in your City and be ready for future dates.

Why are we doing this?

————– Take the time to think about this ————–

How do you define success?
How do you look at mistakes and errors?

… exactly … it is a question of definition and interpretation.

A short research leads to the definition of a “fuckup” as a serious or severe mistake. A quick look at history of the word “failure” shows that the origin of its meaning was “non-occurrence”, it’s use changed over time.

Looking at the word FAIL as an acronym is my choice:

FAIL = First Attempt In Learning

Etwas … im Entstehen

Komponisten Trio

v.l.n.r. Raitis, Andreas und George

Seit ein paar Monaten habe die Ehre und Möglichkeit, mit 3 musikalischen Künstlern und sehr interessanten Individuun zu arbeiten.

:: Raitis Grigalis
:: Andreas Schwarz
:: George Fleury
