Fuckup Nights Basel Vol XI

Posted by jjerlich on 21. April 2018

Jumping right into what happened on our Fuckup Nights Basel on 19. April 2018 – the counterpart to our ladies night from last month – thank you to our three speakers:

Jens Ulrik Hansen

Jens Ulrik Hansen

Jens is an Executive Advisor, Futurist and loves to transform Businesses. He inspires and advises on leadership development, adaptation and business transformation to the digitalized and socialized 21st century.

The importance, when under pressure, of getting the balance right between taking care of others and taking care of oneself

He is building the businesses of the future. We can imagine that doing this kind of “time travel” on a regular basis is a good source for the kind of stories we can really learn from. His passion is to work across competences and business units – a huge resource for coming across stories to learn from.

Jens is a humble, inspirational person always looking to enthuse and engage people!

Work with people who genuinely believe in your idea

A couple of great questions in the Q&A session around how to work with yourself, using your resources wisely and changing your approach to what is important.

Many of our speakers keep coming to our events – a great compliment that honors us!

FuckUp Nights Basel Vol X

Posted by jjerlich on 19. February 2018

It is hard to report from FuckUp Nights Basel: I want to rave about every evening and it might sound cheesy to you already. But it is true, every evening is different and unique with a new mix of people and experiences connecting over a good glass of wine or beer.

THANK YOU to all 60+ participants for coming and contributing in our “Defining failure …” session.

The three untold fresh stories came from three women this time. There was no intention to make it a Ladies Night. It just was! Here are the three speakers you had the honor to meet:

Claudia Raine

Claudia Raine

After 30 different jobs and professions she tried out, she now owns a degree in International Relations and is a committee member of the Professional Women Group in Basel. Being able to really tell how it feels to be in the wrong job, she helps people stop feeling like they are doing time at their job and move to a job that they love.

It is so cool!

On her way she learned that embracing change and not forgetting to do her research despite a lot of enthusiasm is really the best recipe to reach her goal.

She also became an escape artists and escaped from over 50 escape rooms in 17 cities to date.

Connect with Claudia

Sina MehlSina Mehl

“As in everybody elses life,” she says “my life is full of ups and downs and setbacks.” However, her curiosity for the things life has to offer, made her come up with a new plan B for every failed plan A. She decided to do only jobs or projects which excite her the most and feel right in that moment. This is how she experienced many different jobs and found out what she truly wants to do. Embracing the fear of not being perfect doing something you do the first time was her hard lession to learn on the way.

You do need to start!

Organizing self-development events, being a trainer and coach Sina loves to bring like-minded people together who learn from one another, and through that tap deeper into their own truth as well. This is where she does this –

Inside Out Movement

Olga QuesadaOlga Quesada

Olga has a passion to inspire others – in different ways and forms. She did that as a teacher for many years, before she decided that there is more to her life than teaching. Today she is a writer, producer of the Know-how Podcast Series for the Professional Women Group Basel, an Instagram magician and part of the cast in the Vagina Monologues 2018 to empower women. The key question she asked all of us that evening is

Do you really want to spend all this energy to be fighting with your business partner or rather invest it in something new?

A modest, powerful and fun person to be around. She will continue to support FuckUp Nights Basel on our way. Immensly happy about and looking forward to moving mountains having fun on the way.

FUN.Basel IX

Posted by jjerlich on 17. November 2017

If there was no FuckUp Nights Basel yet, we would have to create it now.
Thanks for coming to our November Session.

A very strong evening with three fresh new stories, the second time 2:1 in terms of women to men. Our special guests and speakers you had the honor to meet were:

Rebecca Roberts

Rebecca Roberts
An unshakeable optimist who always had an intense curiosity for discovering what makes people light up inside, and how to consciously and consistently tap into that spark. Doing this for yourself first is the qualification for the job.

Where are the limits of your box?

She showed us very visually how this happened for her and where it lead her to be now:

“I think we all have a touch of schizophrenic – for most of us there are at least 2 or 3 discussions going on in our heads at any given time.“

www.explore-truth.com

Ralf SchlaepferRalf Schlaepfer
Passionate about growing businesses, Ralf started 13 companies as founder or co-founder. His story allowed us to get insights into several of those companies and their results on Ralf in person and the effects or lets say decisions that followed for the companies he founded after that.

Do not expect things to continue as they were today – a fast change may be around the corner tomorrow.

Thanks for the unique insights!

Ralf on Linkedin

Barbara TejadaBarbara Tejada
She is another kind of a lady. Her story showed us in all emotional details how it feels to break with everything toxic. She found her way out of a toxic relationship. Against all her family values. Literally rising like a phoenix from the ashes. Today she shares her insights with all her passion to guide women to be free from all forms of oppression by building a new relationship with themselves – often leading her clients to find the love of their lives!

From being nice to being happy – like a phoenix rising from the ashes!

Barbara is Europe’s #1 expert in teaching “nice women” to become sooo kick-ass that they kick-out of their life all toxic patterns and create the life they really want!

FUN.Basel Vol VIII – Event of your choice

Posted by jjerlich on 10. September 2017

Basel has so many events happening on regular intervals: Wednesdays, Thursday – the days all have specific labels already and I know that there are other events tomorrow night that even I would go to … if there was not a FuckUp Nights Basel.

Thank you so much for your decision to join the conversation about failure! Thank your for the trust in us and your engagement to be part of this cultural shift Isabelle and I are working hard to keep on pushing along here in Basel.

The time our evening was a little different than before – we were all active and a lot of the conversations was circling around this quote:

“Don’t spend time beating on a wall, hoping to transform it into a door. ”
Coco Chanel

Our special guests and speakers you had the honor to meet were:

Carol Daubney

Carol Daubney
Looking behind the “How are you? I am fine.” ritual reveals a lot of insights – the corporate executives Carol trains benefit from her deep understanding based on her own experiences.  Her advice:

There is no shame in asking for help!

She touches all of us with her story and the reason why she is really happy to share her story:
“I am doing what I am doing because I wished that someone had told me 20 years ago.”

www.inspirecoaching.com
www.Inspire-hypnotherapy.com

Ludovic Pureur
Ludovic Pureur
We really enjoyed the story of Ludovic, especially the coaches in our audience who all went to thank him afterwards. Ludovic`s experience in sales & marketing in consumer electronic distribution within European markets and the end of a company lead him to a Start-ups he loves to work for and partly owns today.

Being open and transparent to your employees pays off !

Success requires getting out of our comfort zone – and leads to something better!

Steffy Böhm

Stephanie Boehm
A humble young lady who owns a designer label and 3 shops – despite the cultural and family pressure. She could not find a FuckUp, even searching really hard.

I can only see feedback, don`t you?

Steffy is really passionate about fashion but never a fashion victim. Even though her first stepy did take her to do a Master in Business Administration in Marketing, she never gave up her dream and build up her plan to become a designer.  With lots of experience from the trade working for large companies in retail management before she today knows exactly what she is doing.

“I am nervous now – speaking to your own employees or people you know is different than speaking to a crowd of people who do not know.”

FUN.Basel Vol VI – Finding …

Posted by jjerlich on 12. April 2017

Easter Edition 11.4.2017

I really enjoyed this particular #FuckUpNightBasel‬ at Launchlabs. Here are my reasons why

  • the 3 stories were all presented in a really funny way by exceptional speakers
  • we really enjoy this great location = Launchlabs is the space for creative event formats that strive to introduce new ways of thinking. A huge thanks to our hosts.
  • we had a great crowd of newcomers and repeated delinquents. Thank you all for coming!

A huge Thank you goes to our speakers  – they are a crucial factor for setting the spirit of the evening.

Thank you … for sharing your stories:

Raluca Popescu FUN.Basel Vol VIRaluca Popescu
Passionate about teaching, behavioral economics, design thinking. She is learning to be comfortable with not having a clear answer when asked “what she’s going to do with her life”.

If you’re the smartest person in the room, you’re in the wrong room.

She holds an MSc in Strategic Marketing and has worked in a variety of environments, including two universities, a multinational corporation, a service design consultancy and a start-up incubator. In her story she reflected about the situation when the application for a dream job failed.

Ralf Dümpelmann FUN.Basel Vol VIRalf Dümpelmann
Optimist by heart and Chemical Engineer ETHZ by profession. Expert for innovative analytical methods that help you improve your product development.

Running his own company Inolytix Ltd and supporting innovation and entrepreneurs at BaselArea.swiss in the field of Micro, Nano and Materials
www.inolytix.com

What is the one thing in your life?

Ralf is describing a not unusal situation, completely clear – many people can put themselves in the same shoes: realizing that one person can not change an entire company.
We still try!

Sandra van de Cauter FUN.Basel Vol VI

Sandra van de Cauter
Based upon decades of experience coaching corporate executives at all levels to connect with themselves and their audiences, Sandra has helped countless people with their communication

It is ok to share what you know.

Sandra just published her book:
Get clear – Craft and deliver impactful presentations worth hearing

It is a book to read in an evening (not a book with 500 pages that stays in the bookshelve). Thanks for the insights – here is where you can get it

A note for us all

Becoming visible with your expertise is definitely not something easy. The challenges we face today demand that we all stop hiding. We need to have each others backs and come together as a community to solve the problems of our societies.

Be part of this community!
We are looking forward to see you soon – June 22, 2017

It happens … to all of us

Posted by Stefan@tapabundance.com on 20. September 2016

Errors, defeat, mistakes or failure … whatever word we use for something that has not worked out the way we wanted it to.

What it could hold for us?

Everything that happens will and does have a reason for happening. It sounds a little bit like a cliché however it’s a truth.

The reason can be anything, and maybe it takes a lot of time to be revealed to you. If you start to understand this first important point, you can start to look for the reason in failure and defeat, which you will encounter on your journey.

The next important aspect is this: Failure and Defeat will happen, to all of us. There is nobody excluded from it and nobody will ever be excluded.

stefan_logarWhat is the difference between these two?

Defeat is much more permanent than failure. Defeat is the complete loss of something. If you encounter defeat it can mean that you have to start all over again. It could mean, that you have to rethink a plan completely or it could mean that you would even have to change the products or services you’re offering.

If you encounter defeat, it always will be accompanied by an opportunity. Defeat holds many important lessons for you to learn.

  • It will show you clearly that you were not ready to start in a broad sense.
  • It shows you that you need to gather and apply more new and specialized information and concepts.
  • It shows you also that you have to increase the amount of time that you spend on your journey and be more mindful where you actually spend it on.

Defeat holds a key for you. This key is called translated success. If you overcome defeat, learn from it and adjust to the outcome, it holds an equal amount of success removing the defeat in total.

Failure is something that occurs around us every single day and hides in every action we take.  It comes in many disguises and shows in faces everywhere you look if your mind is programmed to see it.

Not sticking to your own goals and timetables could lead to failure. Also not managing to write the blog you wanted is a failure. As not selling the amounts you hoped for is a failure. And all failures, as well as defeats, come along for a reason.

The sense behind it is, that you start to understand that failure teaches you the responsibility you have for your actions.

If you do start to blame others or things for the failure, you clearly are missing the point that failure is trying to teach you.

It also holds another important lesson for you.  It shows you which roads not to take and the decisions not to make.

“Keep looking for the lessons in failure and defeat. As they will occur and have to occur to help you arise into the personality of a successful entrepreneur that you need to become, to reach your desired lifestyle.”

What is Fluxdock?

It is a place where interdisciplinary teams can collaborate, realize concrete ideas using technology and the Fluxdock network to multiply the intended impact.

The crucial objective is to collaborate across company borders, break down barriers and bring ideas with high level of innovation to project maturity within the short time frame of only one or two weeks.

A great offer and a real match:

My Creativity Engineering program at the Vienna University of Technology trains engineers to develop their creative confidence. It offers a collaboration space and simulation environment to present their ideas, create or find a team collaborating across disciplines to grow their ideas into products and services.

The Challenge

Being able to speak about errors and mistakes – that happen when new things are being created – openly is key. “Fail fast, fail often, learn quickly” is certainly a useful approach that speeds up creation and development.
